Are Custom Dentures Right for You?
Custom dentures can be a viable teeth replacement solution for anyone with missing teeth. Dentures come in two types: complete and partial dentures. Just as the names imply, complete dentures are used to replace a complete set of teeth, whereas partial dentures are used to replace just a missing few. In both of its forms, custom dentures are removable teeth replacement solutions that look and function just like natural teeth.
Conventional dentures can be placed within eight to 12 weeks of a tooth extraction once the bone and gum tissue has fully healed and any swelling is completely reduced.
While the gum tissue is healing, temporary dentures are used in place of conventional ones while your custom dentures are being designed. These temporary dentures can be placed immediately upon tooth extraction so no patient has to go about their daily lives without teeth while their gums and bone undergo the natural healing process.
How are Custom Dentures Made?
Often custom dentures can take several weeks to design and create. Thanks to our on-site, state-of-the-art lab, SR Ivocap® injection molding system, and advanced shaping and shading technology, however, we are able to craft your custom dentures with the right fit, shape and color in a fraction of the time it takes other dental offices to get their dental materials made and shipped to their office.
On your first appointment, we will make a series of impressions of your mouth to measure the structure and spacing of your gums, teeth and bone structure in order to get the appropriate fit. Then, we create and continuously tweak denture forms to determine the shape, shading, fit and positioning of your custom dentures. Once we’ve worked with you to create your custom fit, we begin processing your final dentures right here from our in-house lab. While your custom dentures are being made, you are equipped with temporary dentures to wear in the meantime, so you can rest assured knowing you will never have to leave our office without a full set of teeth at any point during the process.
How does the Ivocap® System Work?
Our use of the Ivocap® injection system ensures that all of our patients get a secure fit in their custom dentures. Unlike conventional dentures which endure some shrinkage during polymerization, Ivocap® dentures use a controlled and continuous injection technique to compensate for this standard material shrinkage, meaning that we can achieve a secure fit each and every time without the need for messy adhesives. Using this special injection procedure, patients receive dentures that are exceptionally accurate in fit and appearance to match each distinct smile.
How do I care for my dentures?
Anyone who wears dentures should know that proper denture care is essential for any denture-wearer’s entire oral and overall health. Just like regular teeth, dentures should be handled with care. They should be brushed twice daily with a soft brush to remove food particles, prevent plaque buildup, and avoid staining. Dentures should also be rinsed after each meal and cleaned with mild dishwashing liquid or hand soap often. Most dentures must stay moist to maintain their original shape, so dentures should always be stored in water with mild soaking solution when not in use. If using these denture-soaking solutions, rinse the dentures thoroughly before putting them back into your mouth, as these solutions may contain chemicals that are harmful to one’s body. Regular dental exams and professional cleanings are also an important part of denture care to ensure you continue to have a secure fit and high level of comfort.
